Rulebook 2012

BOARD OF DIRECTORS

  1. The members of the Tarheel Horseman’s Association, Inc (THA,Inc.) will elect the Board of Directors (BOD), who shall be THA, Inc. Members, consisting of a : President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer and three (3) members at large each year. In addition, the general membership will elect (2) youth members* (age 13-18) at large. The President will have voting privileges in case of a tie. (Only 1 adult and 1 child member per family)

  2. General member meeting will be held in November/December for all interested parties to make recommendations for changes to existing class sheet and rule book. For members unable to attend, recommendations may be submitted to any board member or through the comments box on the THA website. This meeting may be held in conjunction with the Awards Banquet and meeting.

  3. The newly elected officers will hold a board meeting in January to vote on and establish class sheet and rule book after reviewing recommendations from general membership.

  4. Youth Board Members at Large (13-18) years of age. These board members have full voting privileges on any “internal” matters entertained by the BOD i.e. class sheet, rules or Banquet. Any matters that would obligate the THA, Inc. on a contractual agreement such as a lease, lien, or matters that are considered “external” by the officers of the Association may not be voted on by the Youth Board Members.

SPONSORSHIP

  1. Any organization (club, stables or group of people) may be considered for sponsorship of a Tarheel Horseman’s Association, Inc. (THA, Inc.) show upon approval of the Board of Directors.

  2. THA, Inc. will have a 10-show maximum; not to include benefit shows.

  3. Each organization will have equal rights, interests and responsibilities while a member  in good standing with THA, Inc.

  4. The THA,Inc. Board of Directors will decide on organization annual dues if any. Each sponsoring organization must have a representative that is current THA member.

REGISTRATION FOR POINTS

  1. All persons must be registered with the THA,Inc. to be eligible for year-end awards and voting privileges. Points are accumulated from the date of payment of membership fees. NO EXCEPTIONS WILL BE MADE!

  2. THA annual registration fee for recording of points shall be $25.00 for the first horse/rider/handler combination and $15.00 for each additional horse shown by that member. Registration/multiple registrations includes only (1) one vote per member.

  3. Annual membership is $10.00 for each non-showing member and includes (1) one vote.

  4. The point Keeper will start the recording of points after receiving properly completed registration cards and fees, per each horse and rider combination.

  5. Horses and ponies are to be shown under their recorded names and assigned numbers at all approved THA,Inc. shows throughout the year to acquire points.

  6. There will be NO substitution of any horse, rider, and /or combination of horse and rider.

  7. Member (or a designated assignee on the members' behalf ) will be required to volunteer a minimum 2 hours at any THA event in 2012 to qualify for yearend awards.  Member may choose to trade in volunteers hours with a $40 buyout or solidifying a minimum of $100 in Sponsorship monies.  THA Secretary will keep record of member activity.

  8. Member will be required to participate in 75% (4 of 6) of THA Shows in 2012 to qualify for yearend awards.

 

POINTS AND AWARDS

  1. Points shall be awarded in each class, by ALL sponsors, for the end-of-the-day awards as follows:

  1. Entry fee to be $9.00 per class. ay organizations/Barns sponsored shows will  $2.50 per class to THA, Inc.

  2. No one may scratch a class any later that 2 classes prior, and must submit signed scratch sheet to receive credit for that class.***MEDICAL EMERGENCIES ARE THE ONLY EXCEPTIONS***

  3. Class ribbons to be awarded 1st thru 6th place.  THA, Inc. has a working agreement for show ribbons, which allows each sponsor to pay only for the ribbons used at that specific show. Payment of ribbons must be made by the sponsoring organization to THA, Inc. within 4 days after the show. Failure to comply will result in a fine of $50.00 (fifty dollars).

  4. Any plaque, tray, trophy, money and/or special award may be given for first place by the sponsoring organization, with no increase in entry fee.

  5. Eight high point and eight reserve high point Ribbons to be given at each show for the horse and rider combination accumulating the highest number of points- Divisions are Junior and Senior English Hunter, Field Hunter, Junior and Senior Western, Young Rider, Select and Working Western.   

  6. In the event of a day-end high point tie  both will receive High Point Ribbons with no Reserve High Point.  In the event of a Reserve High Point, both will be given ribbons.

  7. Ribbons and trophies to be imprinted with either “Tarheel Horseman’s Association, Inc.” or “THA, Inc.” with the remainder of the printing at the option of the sponsoring organization.

9.Payback Class awards will be determined by the number of entries in the class, but not to exceed three (3) places. All places 1st thru 6th will receive a ribbon furnished by the THA, Inc. 50% of entry fees for these classes will be split between THA, Inc and the sponsoring Barn. Classes will not count for day end or year end points. If there are less than six (6) entries, 1st place will receive the pay out. If there are 6-10 entries, then 1st and 2nd will receive the pay out, 11 or more, 1st thru 3rd will receive the payout. Fifty percent (50%) of the class fees will be paid out as stated above. The following will be the breakdown:

1-5 entries     1st place 100% of the payback amount

6-10 entries   1st place 70% of payback amount

                      2nd place 30% of payback amount

11 + entries   1st place 60% of payback amount

                       2nd place 25% of payback amount

                       3rd place 15% of payback amount

 

10. High point awards to be on the show grounds at the time of the show to be awarded or the sponsoring organization will be fined $150.00 (one hundred fifty dollars).

11.Sportsmanship awards to be given at the option of the sponsoring organization.

  1. An individual barn or sponsor may give special awards to individuals that they would like to recognize at the cost of the party issuing the award(s).

  2. All organizations are responsible for class sheets, to include all THA, Inc. show dates and locations. It shall be mandatory that organizations mail out show announcements AT LEAST TWO WEEKS PRIOR TO SHOW DATES. THEY SHOULD STATE THE JUDGE’S NAME, INCLUDE A POINT OF CONTACT WITH ACCURATE PHONE NUMBERS and reference to the website for specific show information.. The official show bill must include the statement: “A NEGATIVE COGGINS (WITHIN 12 MONTHS) IS REQUIRED AND POSITIVE IDENTIFICATION WILL BE MADE AT THE GATE PRIOR TO ENTRY TO THE GROUNDS”.

  3. Year-End Division Championship and Reserve Championship Awards will be awarded to the horse/rider/handler combination having accumulated the 1st and 2nd highest number of points for the show season in each division.

  4. A Champion and Reserve Champion award will be given in each class for the horse/rider/handler combination accumulating the 1st and 2nd highest number of points for the show season.

  5. Day-End High Points and Year-End Overall Championship points will be calculated based on divisions declared by member at each individual show, however, points will be calculated as the total number of points earned in each class for Year-End individual class Champion and Reserve awards. (i.e.: Points will be totaled for day-end and year-end overalls based on English or Western divisions, but for the year-end individual class awards each horse/rider/handler combination will receive their total points.) In case of Year End ties, the two horse/rider/handler combinations will share the honor of Champion, there will be no Reserve Champion. In the event of a tie for Reserve Champion, all will be awarded awards.

  6. The annual awards will be presented at the Awards Banquet to be held at a date, time and place to be decided by the Board of Directors.

  7. A member must show in 75% of shows during the show year in order to eligible for year-end awards.

  8. Member (or a designated assignee on the members' behalf ) will be required to volunteer a minimum 2 hours at any THA event during the year to qualify for yearend awards.  THA Secretary will keep record of member activity.

HIGH POINT CLASSES

1. The following classes will not count for the Day-End awards, but will count for Year-End CLASS awards and will be marked with an asterisk(*) on the “Class Sheet”: #6 English/Hunter Novice Horse, #11 English/Hunter Novice Rider, #18 Two Years and Under at Halter, #22 Lead Line, #29 Western Novice Horse, #34 Western Novice Rider.

2. Each organization may add up to, but no more than 2(two) classes, but the classesMust be designated with an **, A or B and shall not count for day-end or year-endPoints. Rules for added classes will be available at entry booth. Some suggested Added classes are: Color Class, Ride-A-Buck, Parents & Grooms (rider hasn’t participated in any other class), Bareback-Go As You Please, and Trail-In-Hand.

JUDGES

1. Each organization will acquire a qualified judge for their THA,Inc. show. A list will be available from the BOD.

2. A judge may judge only one approved THA, Inc. show per year and may not judge for the same organization for consecutive years.

3. The judge must be furnished with a copy of the THA, Inc. Rule Book  & show bill at least two weeks prior to the show date, to assure that he/she is familiar with the THA, Inc. rules and regulations.

4. The judge and/or Board of Directors has the right to check any horse showing signs of communicable disease or lameness and order that horse from the show ring or off the grounds.

5. The judge and/or Board of Directors may order any person from the show ring or off the show grounds for any abusive language, bad conduct, and/or inhumane treatment to any animal. Any of the above should be brought to the attention of the sponsoring organization and the B.O.D.

6. The judge and/or Board of Directors may order any horse from the show ring or off the show grounds, if in his/her opinion the horse is dangerous to the safety of or Interferes with other exhibitors, horse and/or people.

7. Judges shall not appear on the show grounds more than 30 minutes prior to show time.

8. Neither the judge nor members of his/her immediate family or horses owned or Trained (within 6 months) by same, will exhibit, act as agents or handlers of a horse in any class at a show which he/she is officiating, nor shall they be members of the THA, Inc.

9. The judge will have the authority to place exhibitor, horse or rider in whatever position in the class he/she deems the merit of the exhibitor, horse or rider. Once the judge has marked his record, there will be no change, except in case of error protest.

PROTESTS

1. At the time of protest, a $25.00 protest fee must be presented to the show committee by the protester. The show committee must abide by THA, Inc. rules and recommendations of the BOD.

2. Protesting of any class because of improper set-up(i.e. Trail) must be done prior to the start of the class, not after the class has been tied.

3. Protest must be filed prior to next class, and then show will stop until protest is settled.

4. If just cause is found and protest is ruled in favor of protester, the $25.00 fee will returned. If no just cause is found, the protest fee becomes the property of the sponsoring organization.

SHOW MANAGEMENT GENERAL RULES

1. The show management is responsible for seeing that THA, Inc. rules and Regulations are strictly adhered to and properly enforced.

2. A THA, Inc. show is open to all members of THA , Inc. and any individual desiring to enter, unless just cause can be shown why that individual should be denied the privilege of showing.

3. The results of all approved THA, Inc. shows, which includes the original class entry sheets and signed judge’s cards will be forwarded to the Point Keeper within 4 days, if results were not turned over at the end of the show. A check or money order for the $2.50 per entry and total payment for the ribbons used for the show shall be forwarded to the Treasurer within 4 days. Failure to comply will result in a fine of $50.00 (fifty dollars).

4. No show may be held on the same day as a THA, Inc. show by an organization belonging to THA, Inc.

5. Adequate restroom facilities and water must be provided within a reasonable distance of the show ring and the public advised of the location.

6. No THA, Inc. class will be omitted or canceled, unless no entry is listed.

7. The names of the Board of Directors shall be made available at the entry booth upon request.

8. All show arenas will be subject to approval by the Board of Directors or by anindividual designated by the Board of Directors.

 

GENERAL SHOW RULES

ALL HORSES ON THE SHOW GROUNDS MUST HAVE PROOF OF NEG-

ATIVE COGGINS!!  POSTIVE IDENTIFICATION MUST BE MADE AT THE

GROUNDS GATE PRIOR TO ADMITTING ANY HORSE ON THE SHOW

GROUND.

1. Daytime shows will begin no earlier than 9:00 A.M. (HALTER) and 12:30 P.M. (Western, beginning with class #18). Evening summer shows will begin no earlier than 3:00 P.M.(HALTER) and no earlier than 6:00 P.M. (Western, beginning with class #18).

2. A horse can only show one time in a class.

3. Horse/rider/handler combination must use the same number throughout the show season.

4. No exhibitor or spectator shall enter or leave the show ring unless instructed to do so the judge or ringmaster. Failure to comply will be automatic disqualification for the entire show and forfeiture of remaining entry fees.

5. Points will go to the horse/rider/handler combination.

6. Riders will receive on-deck and entrance calls. Failure to appear at the gate on entrance call will be grounds for disqualification. There will be a one minute gate call. ONCE THE CLASS HAS BEGUN, NO NEW ENTRIES WILL BE ALLOWED!!!.

7. Exhibitors are responsible for entry blank errors.

8. Any tack changes must be noted on the entry sheet. FIVE MINUTES WILL BE ALLOWED FOR TACK CHANGES. TIME WILL BE STRICTLY ADHERED TO.

9. The judge has the right to ask for individual work from any horse, extension of any gait and to ask any exhibitor to back their horse.

10. Curb chains are permissible but must meet the approval of the judge, and be at least ½” in width, lying flat against the jaw of the horse.

11. The THA, Inc. suggests that each organization have a veterinarian and farrier on the grounds or on call.

12. Classes will be split if over 16 entries, except Young Rider classes which will split over 14.

13. Exhibitors will declare on entry blank for which division points will count. ((Junior/Senior English Hunter, Junior/Senior Western, Select, Young Riders, Working Western and Field Hunter)

14. The Board of Directors shall have the authority to discipline any member/club for any infraction of these rules or for un-sportsman like conduct, misconduct or such.

15. Ringmaster shall be familiar with the rules of THA, Inc. There shall be no excessive talking between judge and ringmaster. (Refer to AQHA Rulebook).

16. NO ONE UNDER 18 YEARS OF AGE SHALL SHOW A STALLION.

17. The injection of foreign substances of drugs, which could affect the horse’s performance, is prohibited.

18. This is a family event and there will be no drugs, alcohol, profanity or abuse permitted or tolerated.

19. No JULY or AUGUST shows ( non pointed fun shows will be the exception)

GENERAL HUNT SEAT CLASS RULES

1. PERSONAL APPOINTMENTS (Required): Boots, jodhpur boots, breeches, jodhpurs, tie, choker or stock, coat hunt cap (ASTM/SEI approved helmets are required in all jumping classes!

2. TACK APPOINTMENTS (Required): Bridle, regulation snaffles, pelhams, weymouths, kimberwicks or full bridles. All must have caveson nosebands. Saddle: heavy, plain leather or synthetic skirted saddle or English or forward seat type. May have suede seat and/or inset or skirt and either leather or cloth lining. Either leather, web, cord or lined girths are permitted.

3. OPTIONAL APPOINTMENTS: Carrying of crop, spurs of the English type, hunting breastplate or collar and braiding of mane and tail in hunt style.

4. PROHIBITED APPOINTMENTS: Running or standing martingales, tie downs, draw reins, mechanical hackamores non-english bits, or any nosebands below the bit.

5. Lack of required appointments or use of prohibited appointments may be just cause for disqualification.

6. Coats are to be worn unless excused by the judge.

7. Points for English division will include classes 1-17.

 

GENERAL WESTERN CLASS RULES

1. PERSONAL APPOINTMENTS (Required): Western hat or a safety ASTM/SEI approved helmet, long sleeve dress shirt or blouse, western boots and any complimentary clothes are permitted.

2. TACK APPOINTMENTS (Required): Bridle to be standard western type with a western bit (Refer to AQHA rule book). Saddle to be western stock type. Silver equipment will not count over a good working outfit.

3. OPTIONAL APPOINTMENT: Breast collar, spurs, rain slicker, chaps and the carrying of rope/ riata and or hobbles.

4. PROHIBITED APPOINTMENTS: Mechanical hackamore bits, whips, bats, quirts, running or standing martingales, except for Arabians in hand.

5. Lack of required appointments or use of prohibited appointments may be just cause for disqualification.

6. One finger is permitted between split reins. Exhibitors showing with closed reins with romal must hold in proper manner.

7. Junior horses (5 years and under) may be shown in snaffle bit or bosal, -proof of age is required. Registered horses-registration papers, Non-registered horses-certification letter from veterinarian as to age.

8. Points for Western division will include-classes 18-41 (unless marked with *or**).

 

AGE DIVISIONS

1. A senior is anyone nineteen(19) years of age or older as of January 1st of the current year of showing.

2. A junior is anyone thirteen (13) thru eighteen (18) years of age as of January 1st of the current year of showing. If he/she turns nineteen (19) during the year, he/she can still compete as a junior for the remainder of the year.

3. A youth who is twelve (12) years of age or younger as of January 1st of the current year will be eligible to show in the Young Rider division.  Classes that count for day end and year end awards are: #1, #2, #19, #20, #21, #23, #24, and #25.  Those choosing to show the Young Rider Division ay still may show in the Junior and Open Classes, but those classes will not count for Day End or Year End High Point awards except for Halter, and Showmanship classes.

 

4. Proof of age to be made available upon request of the show committee and/or Board of Directors.

CLASS RULES

1.MODEL HUNTER IN HAND-Open to all age mares, geldings, and stallions of Hunter type. To be judged on breed type, conformation, soundness, quality and manners. To be shown in an English bridle. Bridles are optional on 2-yr olds, under 2 yrs must be shown in a plain halter

2. ENGLISH/HUNTER SHOWMANSHIP Open -Horses to be shown in an English bridle or plain leather halter. A pattern shall be posted 1 hour prior to class. (AQHA rules apply) No whips allowed.

3. **ENGLISH/HUNTER TRAINING CLASS GAYP- Horses to be shown both ways of the ring in riders preferred gait.  Training equipment permissible.  Class points do not count for Day End or Year End awards.

4. JUNIOR/ENGLISH HUNTER WALK/TROT-13 to 18: Horses to be shown both ways of the ring to be judged on manners and performance.

5. JUNIOR/ENGLISH HUNTER PLEASURE-Riders 13-18. Horses to be shown both ways of the ring To be judged on manners, performance and ability to give a pleasurable ride.

6. *ENGLISH /HUNTER NOVICE HORSE- Open.  Open to all English Hunter Horses in their 1st and 2nd year of  under saddle competition to be judged the same as class #4.  No Day end point.

7.**PAYBACK CLASS WALK/TROT Open. (THA, Inc. sponsored class) (No day-end points) To be judged the same as class #3.

8. ENGLISH/HUNTER EQUITATION JR & SR-Open: To be judged on the rider’s performance and skill, rider’s basic position, use of hands and legs, and rider’s ability to control and show their horse. Riders will be asked to perform a pattern, which may be composed from the optional list of tests below (rail work optional). Patterns to be posted one hour prior to class.

OPTIONAL LIST OF TESTS FOR EQUITATION RIDERS:

Answer any questions on horses, tack or riding.

Execute a slow sitting trot, posting trot and /or extended trot

9.SENIOR ENGISH/HUNTER WALK TROT : 19 & OVER.  To be judged the same as class #4.

10.  SENIOR ENGLISH/HUNTER PLEASURE: 19  & Older.  To be judged the same as class #5.

11. *HUNTER NOVICE RIDER WALK/TROT-Open: (No Day-End Points) Open to all English riders in their 1st and 2nd year of ANY type of under saddle competition, English or Western, as of September 1st of the previous year. Horses are to shown both directions of the ring at a walk and trot and judged on manners and performance of the horse and rider’s ability to control and show their horse.

12. FIELD HUNTER WALK TROT- Open.  Can not cross enter class #4 or #9. This division promotes the field hunter horse, which should have a free flowing long stride with correct gaits and proper cadence.  Excessively slow gaits or appearance of depression will be penalized.  Emphasis will be placed on a frame and way of going that is proper for horses going over fences.  Headsets are not to be emphasized.  Field Hunter classes are to be shown on the flat.  Horses to be shown both ways of the ring at a walk and trot.  To be judged on manners and performance.

13. FIELD HUNTER PLEASURE – Open.  Cannot cross enter class #5 or #10.  Horses to be shown both ways of the ring at a walk, trot and cantor.  To be judged on manners, performance and the ability to give a pleasurable ride.

14. CHAMPIONSHIP ENGLISH /HUNTER WALK/TROT- Open.  Horses to be shown both ways of the ring to be judged on manners and performance.

15. CHAMPIONSHIP HUNTER PLEASURE-Open: Horses are to shown both directions of the ring at a walk, trot and canter. Horses may be asked to hand gallop (no more than 8 at a time and at the discretion of the judge) and judged on manners, way of going and ability to give a pleasurable ride.

16. HUNTER HACK-Open Rail work, jump 2 fences (18” Cross Rails at a trot or Canter, or 2’ Vertical at a Canter, rider’s choice) at a canter and judged on manners, way of going, and style over fences. Scoring 70% over fences and 30% rail work. A total of 3 refusals is automatic disqualification. **Prior to class, practice shall consist of 2 jumps with no more than two refusals. Only registered entrants shall be allowed to practice.

17. EGG & SPOON- Open:  Spoons with washer to be  used. Class to be process of elimination.  Judges instructions to be executed immediately or rider will be disqualified.

 

WESTERN DIVISION:

18. * TWO AND UNDER AT HALTER-Open. (No Day-end points) Open to all filly’s and colts shown according to breed standard and judged on breed type, conformation, quality, soundness and manners.  No one under 18 years of age may exhibit a stallion.

19. STALLIONS & GELDINGS AT HALTER-Open to all age geldings & stallions. Shown according to breed standard and judged on breed type, conformation, quality, soundness and manners. NO ONE UNDER THE AGE OF 18 MAY EXHIBIT A STALLION.

20.. MARES AT HALTER-Open to all age mares and judged the same as Class #18.

21. WESTERN SHOWMANSHIP-Open. Western is to be shown in a western halter.  To be judged 40% on the appearance of the horse, 10% on appearance of exhibitor and 50% on the showing of the horse.  A pattern shall be posted 1 hour prior to class. (AQHA rules apply).

22. *LEADLINE-Must be 2-6 years of age as of Jan.1st of show year. Cannot enter any other class.  MUST WEAR AN ASTM/SEI HELMET.

23.  YOUNG RIDER WALK/JOG/TROT- Rider 12 and under open to English and Western . Horses to be shown both ways of the ring at a walk and jog or trot to be judged on performance and manners.

24.  YOUNG RIDER PLEASURE – Rider 12 and under open to English and Western . .  

25. YOUNG RIDER WALK /JOG /TROT EQUITATION: Riders 12 and under English or Western.  Judged on riders performance and skill, riders basic position, use of hands and legs and the riders ability to control and show their horse. Designated simple pattern required with railwork at the discretion of the judge.  Horses to be shown at the walk and jog or trot ( no cantor or lope.)

26. **WESTERN TRAINING CLASS GAYP- Open:  Horses to be shown both ways of the ring in riders preferred gait.  Training equipment permissible.  Class points do not count for Day End or Year End awards.

27. JUNIOR WESTERN WALK/JOG 13 to 18.  Horses to be shown both ways of the ring to be judged  at a walk and jog. To be judged on manners and performance.

28. JUNIOR WESTERN PLEASURE: 13 TO 18. Horses to be shown both ways of the ring to be judged  at a walk, jog and lope.  To be judged on manners, performance and the ability to give a pleasurable ride.

29. *WESTERN NOVICE HORSE WALK/JOG-Open (No Day-end points): Horses 1st and 2nd year under saddle competition. To be shown both directions of the ring at a walk and a jog. To be judged on manners and performance.

30. **PAYBACK CLASS WALK/JOG-Open. (THA,Inc. Sponsored Class)(No Day-end or year-end points) To be judged the same as Class #27.

31. WESTERN HORSEMANSHIP. 13 and over. To be judged on the rider’s performance and skill, basic position, uses of hands and legs, and ability to control and show their horse. Riders may be asked to perform a pattern, which may be composed from the optional list of tests below. Patterns are to be posted one(1) hour prior to class. (Rail work at judges’ discretion).

OPTIONAL LIST OF TESTS FOR HORSEMANSHIP:

32. SENIOR WESTERN PLEASURE 19 & OVER: Horses to be shown in both directions of the ring at a walk, jog and a lope and judged on manners and performance.

33. SENIOR WESTERN PLEASURE 19 and over. Horses to be shown in both directions of the ring at a walk, jog and a lope and judged on manners and performance.

34. * WESTERN NOVICE RIDER WALK/JOG-Open(No Day-End Points). Open to all Western riders in their 1st and 2nd year of *ANY* type of under saddle competition, English or Western as of September 1st of the previous year. Horses to be shown in both directions of the ring at a walk and a jog and judged on manners and performance of the horse and the rider’s ability to control and show their horse.

35. WORKING WESTERN WALK/JOG: Open :  Cannot cross enter class #27 or #32. This division promotes a more natural working type of western horse which should have a free flowing stride with correct gaits and proper cadence. Headsets are not to be emphasized: the nose should not be behind the vertical. Artificial gaits will be penalized. Appearance of intimidation, excessively slow or unnatural gaits, or depression will be penalized.   Horses to be shown both ways of the ring.  Examples of unnatural or artificial gaits are a four beat lope, or walking in the back and jogging in the front when at the jog.  Horses will not be penalized for not being clipped.  Silver shall not count over plain working tack. To be judged on manners and performance.

36. WORKING WESTERN PLEASURE: Open.  Cannot cross enter class #28 or #33. 37. *SELECT WALK-JOG 39 and over (no day-end points) to be shown in both directions of the ring at a walk and jog. To be judged on manners and performance.

38. SELECT WALK/JOG HORSEMANSHIP: 39 & over: Horses to be shown both ways of the ring at a walk and jog.  To be judged on the rider’s performance and skill, basic position, uses of hands and legs, and ability to control and show their horse. Riders may must  perform designated pattern.  Patterns are to be posted one(1) hour prior to class.

39. CHAMPIONSHIP WESTERN WALK/JOG-Open: Horses to be shown in both directions of the ring at a walk and jog and judged on manners and performance

40. CHAMPIONSHIP WESTERN PLEASURE-Open: Horses to be shown in both directions of the ring at a walk, jog and a lope and judged on manners, performance and the ability to give a pleasurable ride.

41. TRAIL-Open English and Western- To be judged on performance over obstacles, manners, response to rider and attitude.  Horses must not be required to work on the rail. The course must be designed to require each horse to show (2) gaits (walk and jog) somewhere between the obstacles as part of it’s work and will be scored as a maneuver. It should be kept in mind that the idea of a trail course is not to trap a horse or eliminate it by making an obstacle too difficult. All courses are to be set up with safety in mind as to eliminate any accidents. IT IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED THAT THE TRAIL BE SET UP OUTSIDE THE MAIN ARENA. THERE IS TO BE A TOTAL OF NO MORE THAN SIX (6) OBSTACLES (3 MANDATORY AND 3 OPTIONAL). TIME LIMIT IS TO BE ONE (1) MINUTE OR THREE (3) REFUSAL TRIES WHICHEVER COMES FIRST.   NO PRACTICE ON COURSE PRIOR TO CALL OF CLASS.

MANDATORY OBSTACLES:

Ride over at least four (4) logs/poles

Back through obstacle (straight back, L back, back thru cones)

Serpentine obstacles at walk or jog. Spacing according to AQHA rules

At an obstacle consisting of four logs or rails, each 5 to 7 feet long, laid in a square, each rider will enter the square by riding over log/rail as designated. When all four feet are inside the square, rider should execute a turn as indicated and depart.

OPTIONAL OBSTACLES:

Carry object from one part of arena to another. Only objects which reasonably might be carried on a trail ride may be used.

Opening, passing through and closing gate. Only gate, which will not endanger horse and rider, may be used.

Put on and remove a slicker.

Remove and replace materials from mailbox.

Side pass ( see AQHA rules)

Ride over a wooden bridge (minimum width- 36” and length-6’)

UNACCEPTABLE OBSTACLES:

a. Tires

b. Animals

c. Hides

d. PVC pipe

e. Dismounting

f. Jumps

g. Rocking or moving bridges

h. Water box with floating or moving parts

j. Logs or poles elevated in such a manner that permits them to roll

k. Ground ties
